Troy, NY – New York State's Health Commissioner was in Rensselaer County this morning, where he kicked off a 15 county National Public Health Week tour. Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas was there...
Dr. Richard F. Daines visited the Capital District Community Gardens' Urban Farm in Troy, praising the efforts that have made the Gardens a success. The Community Gardens provides area residents with access to fresh fruits and vegetables while teaching young people the value of healthy eating. There are two other garden sites: at Corliss Park and in Albany's Arbor Hill. The Health Commissioner used the occasion to target what he regards as New York's biggest health problem: obesity, and to argue FOR the proposed "soda tax," which Dr. Daines hopes will become a bargaining chip during 11th-hour NYS budget negotiations.
