Albany, NY – The New York State Police Thruway detail is launching its annual ``Pumpkin Patrols'' aimed at preventing dangerous Halloween pranks along the 641-mile highway system. WAMC's Dave Lucas reports.
Thruway Authority officials say state troopers, local citizen band radio clubs and amateur radio operators will be on watch beginning Friday and continuing through Halloween night on Saturday.
State police officials say troopers will be looking for unusual activity along the highway as well as at overpasses and interchanges.
Volunteers posted at overpasses will report any suspicious activity to state police or local law enforcement. Officials say 16 volunteer organizations from 20 counties will take part. The Halloween patrols began in 1976.
