New York, NY – For many of us, philanthropy means throwing some canned goods in the food shelter bins as we leave the grocery store or pledging a few dollars to a cause we believe in. The recession may either emphasize the importance of that giving, or make many people think twice about whether we can afford to do it. Hudson Valley bureau chief Susan Barnett reports on an event which celebrates philanthropy on a much bigger scale but where the economy is also causing some concern.
