Albany, NY – A report issued this week by Massachusetts-based SweatFree Communities that found several U.S. states, cities, and counties inadvertently using millions of taxpayer dollars to purchase goods from companies engaged in serious human rights and labor violations. Data collected in the groundbreaking study was interpreted as indicating New York State holds contracts with companies linked to sweatshop labor: some of those named in the report have issued responses.
