Albany, NY – Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is proposing new legislation that would create a statewide registry of certified home health aides.
The new bill plans to address the theft and fraud that takes place in the home health care industry. Some of that fraud includes the issuing of fraudulent home health agency certificates, which results in unqualified workers. Questions have also been raised regarding poor record-keeping that provides no discernible paper trail for billing records, AND documented instnaces of Multiple agencies submitting bills for the same aide or not listing the name of the actual home health aide - often resulting in bills representing service lasting 24 hours a day or more.
