Albany, NY – The president of the Saratoga County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People says racism and classism are responsible for opposition to affordable housing programs in Saratoga Springs. Jahvtz Blanton wrote to The Saratogian after the newspaper published an article about affordable housing in Saratoga Springs. In his piece, "Affordable housing policy in Saratoga: A study in how to keep minorities out." Blanton wrote that affordable housing is a civil rights issue and that city leaders lacked moral or political will to ensure programs were in place to help house low and moderate income people.
Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas reports.
