Albany, NY – There's a call to "get the lead out" of New York, with two state Senators introducing legislation to eliminate lead poisoning in compliance with a federal mandate to do so by 2010.

Every year 10-thousand children in New York State are newly identified as "lead poisoned." Exposure to lead, primarily in the form of lead dust from deteriorating paint in older buildings, causes permanent IQ loss and intellectual impairment.

State Senators Bill Perkins and Neil Breslin were joined by parents and civil rights & community activists to announce the introduction of comprehensive legislation and agency action to eliminate lead poisoning in New York. Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas Reports.
