Vermont Joins Settlement Reached With Opioid Distributors

Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan says the state will receive about $60 million from a proposed national settlement with companies that made and distributed opioid painkillers.
Donovan sued Cardinal Health, McKesson Corporation, Amerisource Bergen Drug Corporation and Johnson & Johnson last year. The Democrat says the $26 billion national settlement agreement resolves the investigations and litigation into the companies’ roles in creating and continuing the opioid epidemic.

Final terms are being reviewed but Donovan said it is “imperative that some of this money be directed to local communities.”

The attorneys general from New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut have endorsed the settlement. States have 30 days to decide whether to embrace the deal. Local governments have 150 days to sign on.
