Another step is being taken in the continuing effort to curb the illegal use of dirt bikes and other off-road vehicles on city streets.
City Councilors in Springfield, Massachusetts voted unanimously Monday night to give initial approval to an ordinance that will make it illegal to sell gasoline to a person riding an off-highway vehicle.
City Councilor and State Representative Orlando Ramos is the sponsor of the ordinance. He spoke this morning with WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill
The Council could give final approval to the ordinance at their next meeting on June 14th.
A bill sponsored by Ramos in the state legislature would give Springfield police the ability to seize and destroy dirt bikes that are being operated illegally.
