New England Governors Willing To Share Vaccine To Open Border Faster

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has indicated he wants 75 percent of Canadians to have received one COVID-19 dose and 20 percent to be fully vaccinated before the border between the U.S. and Canada opens.  Vermont Governor Phil Scott says Northeast states are willing to share vaccines if it helps speed up the process.
Governor Scott said the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers met in mid-May and sent a letter to the U.S. and Canadian federal governments asking permission to share excess vaccines with neighboring provinces.   “Our thought was if we could offer them at the border and do whatever we can to help administer it would get them that much closer to opening up the border so that we could get back to some sort of normalcy.”

The border has been closed to non-essential travel since March 2020. The closure – extended on a monthly basis – is in place until June 21st.
