Berkshire Healthcare says that all of its facilities in Berkshire County have at least one staffer with COVID-19.

The rehabilitation, nursing and senior housing company runs nine locations in Berkshire County. After a brutal spring that hit long-term care facilities particularly hard – with about 20 COVID deaths at the Williamstown Commons nursing home alone – Vice President of Business Development and Marketing Lisa Gaudet says the company is prepared for the new surge.

“We do have in each of our facilities here in Berkshire County at least one staff member if not more positive – so, community members who work in our buildings," she told WAMC. "And then we have a couple buildings with positive residents.”

The locations are in Pittsfield, Lenox, North Adams, Great Barrington and Williamstown.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
