Both the Massachusetts House and Senate have now passed separate bills that would ban certain flame retardants from a variety of consumer products.

A conference committee will work to produce a final bill.

Thirteen other states have passed similar bans according to the environmental organization Clean Water Action.

In Massachusetts, a coalition of public health advocates, environmental groups, labor unions and others have lobbied for such a ban since 2013.

WAMC”s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Janet Domenitz, executive director of the Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group (MassPIRG).

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
