Vermont’s senior U.S. Senator criticized both Republicans and Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett during the first day of confirmation hearings Monday.
Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy discussed his objection to the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court in his opening statement, noting her opposition to the Affordable Care Act. He also excoriated Republicans for pushing to confirm the nominee so close to the election.  “Republicans first announced their intention to fill Justice Ginsburg’s seat just one hour after her death. This process has been nothing but shameful.”

Leahy, a Democrat, is the senior member of the Judiciary Committee.
