New $30,000 Fund To Support Berkshire County Theater Professionals

Massachusetts Cultural Council

With the coronavirus pandemic shuttering performing arts venue for months, Massachusetts cultural nonprofits and their employees have experienced an abrupt loss of revenue and sweeping furloughs and layoffs. Among the efforts to provide relief to the flagging industry, a new $30,000 fund has been established specifically for theater professionals living in Berkshire County. WAMC spoke with Massachusetts Cultural Council Executive Director Anita Walker about that and other ways state and private entities are working to support the arts.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
