Since the first reported coronavirus case in late March, 17 people have died at a Williamstown, Massachusetts nursing home.

In numbers shared with WAMC Wednesday, Berkshire Healthcare – the company that manages the facility – says that in addition to the deaths, there are 34 positive cases of coronavirus at Williamstown Commons. Of the 130 or so residents, 45 have tested negative and 21 recovered from the disease.

At Fairview Commons in Great Barrington – another facility managed by Berkshire Healthcare – six cases have been identified, with three of those people moving into recovery.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
