The Tanglewood Festival Chorus is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a special broadcast this weekend.

The chorus was supposed to mark the day with a performance at the Linde Center at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts on Saturday. Instead, WCRB will broadcast a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, Resurrection recorded by the chorus in 2018 under the conduction of Andris Nelson – the first piece the chorus ever performed in 1970.

“Nothing can be more appropriate, of course, for the Easter weekend than the Resurrection symphony itself – and it has one of the most famous choral finales, with the chorus coming in very, very softly, and singing unaccompanied after a good hour of orchestral music,” said Boston Symphony Orchestra Choral Director and Conductor of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus James Burton.

The summer Tanglewood schedule remains uncertain during the pandemic.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
