Great Barrington Stalls On Road Repaving Project

Great Barrington, Massachusetts officials are deliberating how to carry out paving repairs to Lake Mansfield Road.

The Southern Berkshire County community’s selectboard voted to close the road in June, but has yet to actually do so. Town manager Mark Pruhenski says the town is waiting on its leaders to figure out what to do next.

“At this point, the road is eroding," said Pruhenski. "It’s become quite dangerous for pedestrians, and we’re looking to turn that part of the lake and that road into a green space, something that can be more in line with a park or a space that can be shared by bikers, pedestrians, and folks that would like to fish and enjoy the lakeside.”

Pruhenski says the stretch of road that needs repaving is about 900 feet, at an estimated cost of $50,000. The selectboard voted to limit to the road to one lane after a new coat of pavement has been put down, but there is no timeline in place for the project.
