Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission Now Has Medical Marijuana Oversight

WAMC

A change in state oversight of medical marijuana in Massachusetts appears to have gone smoothly.

A medical marijuana advocacy group said there have been no complaints from patients since the Cannabis Control Commission took regulatory responsibility from the state health department in late December.

When NETA, a medical marijuana dispensary in Northampton began recreational sales last November, this patient, who gave his name only as Bret, said he was not concerned.

" They indicated there would be a reserve of about 30 percent of product for medical patients," he said.

Patients can also cut ahead of the long lines of recreational cannabis shoppers and get preferred parking spots.

Five medical marijuana dispensaries also offer recreational pot.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
