An early morning shooting in Washington, Massachusetts sent a 19-year-old to the hospital in critical condition.

The Berkshire District Attorney’s office says the 1 a.m. shooting happened at the Ashley Reservoir, which lies in the northernmost tip of October Mountain State Forest — just southeast of adjacent Pittsfield. DA Paul Caccaviello tells WAMC that as of noon Tuesday, the victim had undergone surgery at Berkshire Medical Center but remains in critical condition.

“At this point, no suspects have been arrested," said the DA. "We will release updates as they become available.”

The DA’s office says agencies from across the county and state are involved in the investigation.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
