Several Vermont electric utilities are urging customers to conserve energy as temperatures rise across New England.
The Vermont Electric Cooperative has asked that people conserve energy between the hours of 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. The Burlington Electric Department also encouraged customers to cut back their energy use during the afternoon and evening.

Ways to reduce energy usage during the peak periods include turning off unnecessary lights, using major appliances outside of the alert times and reducing the use of air conditioning.

The VEC energy services planner says reducing energy use can help control rates over the long term. He tells the Caledonian Record, "when one member saves, we all save."
