With Casino Opening Getting Closer, MGM Plans More Outreach To Fill Jobs

MGMSpringfield

With the scheduled opening of the first resort casino in Massachusetts less than 100 days away, MGM Springfield is holding more information sessions for job-seekers.

MGM has scheduled a series of nine public meetings during the week prior to Memorial Day where company representatives will discuss the hiring process.

Wanda Gispert, a vice president of workforce development at MGM, has led a months-long effort to spread the word in Springfield about the thousands of jobs that need to be filled at the casino.

" We are very much boots on the ground," Gispert explained.

Earlier this month, MGM hosted a mass hiring event where hundreds of people were offered jobs.   The company said it will hold similar events in the future.

The casino is scheduled to open on August 24th

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
