Street paving projects this year could be delayed, or even postponed, in the largest city in western Massachusetts.
The short construction season could get even shorter, warns Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, if the City Council does not vote soon to accept $3.7 million in state funds for local street projects.
City Council President Orlando Ramos said before he schedules a vote, councilors want to question DPW officials about which streets are scheduled to be paved.
" I can't make any guarantees," said Ramos. " We will see how it goes. We'll see how the converstation goes."
Springfield officials were notified of how much so-called Chapter 90 money would be available to the city back in February, but did not come to the City Council for permission to accept the money until months later.
