Facebook To Give Springfield A 'Boost'

Facebook announced Thursday that it will bring an education program for small business owners to Springfield, Massachusetts later this year.

Springfield is one of 30 cities where Facebook will offer its Community Boost program. It is a two-day series of free workshops, training ,and networking sessions designed to give small business owners digital tools and tips to succeed, according to the marketing director for the program, Doug Frisbie.

"The things we've heard most frequently from small businesses is that they need two things: number one is to acquire customers and number two is to hire qualified employees," Frisbie said in an interview.

He said Springfield was selected in part because of a survey that found a high percentage of business owners said social media was essential for them.

The schedule for the Springfield events which will be on September 10th and 11th is still being finalized.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
