Community Health Organization Announces New Name

A community health organization formed in Springfield, Massachusetts 20 years ago has started the new year by changing its name.

Partners for a Healthier Community this week became the Public Health Institute of Western Massachusetts.

The change was announced and new data on youth mental health was released at a meeting this week attended by more than 100 of the organization’s supporters.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with the institute’s executive director Jessica Collins.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
