A North Adams mayoral candidate is criticizing The Berkshire Eagle for not disclosing a campaign contribution made by one of the newspaper’s owners.

North Adams City Councilor Bob Moulton Jr. is raising concern after learning one of The Berkshire Eagle’s owners, Hans Morris, donated $250 to Tom Bernard’s campaign in September.

Morris is managing partner at venture capital firm Nyca Partners, which is part owner of New England Newspapers Inc., which operates The Eagle.

Executive Editor Kevin Moran said in a statement distributed by the newspaper that the donation should have been disclosed. Moran contends Morris does not play a role in editorial decisions, including endorsements.

The vote for the open mayoral seat is Tuesday.
