FERC Denies Request To Halt Kinder Morgan's Pipeline Expansion, Again

Sugar Shack Alliance

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has denied calls to reconsider a controversial natural gas pipeline expansion in Western Massachusetts.

The area’s state and federal representatives and several citizen groups sent renewed requests to FERC to rescind its approval of Kinder Morgan’s Connecticut Expansion project, which cuts through Otis State Forest.

FERC denied those requests Friday.

Opponents were hoping now that FERC can reach a quorum after filling two of four open seats in early August, it would revisit the pipeline expansion project.

More than 65 protestors have been arrested by Massachusetts State Police since the tree felling began in Otis State Forest. The project is near completion.
