A fourth town in Vermont is mulling whether to join a proposed school district merger between three other districts.
Arlington is listed as "advisable" in a merger draft worksheet, while the Sandgate, Stratton and Winhall school districts are all listed as "necessary." The Bennington Banner reports this means that it is optional for Arlington to join the merger, but the other three all need to vote yes for the merger to be approved.

None of Sandgate, Stratton, or Winhall operates schools, but if Arlington were to join the three non-operating districts it would not mean closing its schools and becoming non-operating as well.

An election is tentatively scheduled for November.
