North Adams, Massachusetts wants to borrow funds to review and upgrade the city’s water infrastructure.

North Adams Mayor Richard Alcombright will ask the City Council on Tuesday to authorize borrowing nearly $784,000 to upgrade the city’s water facility.

It will include an engineering study of the Mount Williams and Notch reservoir dams, a computer system to operate a water treatment facility, various inspections, and a street sweeper that Alcombright says the city needs.

A 2011 study found the city’s water system is in poor condition, and the aqueduct connecting the two reservoirs is failing.

Alcombright says the project will cost $1.1 million in debt, including interest, and will be paid off by 2020.
