The Berkshire Women’s Political Caucus will head to northern Berkshire County for the first time on Wednesday.

The Berkshire Women’s Political Caucus meeting is Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Freight Yard Pub in North Adams.

The local committee of the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus said the election of President Donald Trump has inspired it to get more women to run for office. Statewide membership is up 450 percent since November.

The 1st Berkshire District House seat was left vacant by the June death of Democratic Representative Gailanne Cariddi.

Former North Adams mayor John Barrett, North Adams City Councilor Lisa Blackmer, Stephanie Bosley, daughter of former State Representative Daniel Bosley, and Kevin Towle, who worked as Cariddi’s legislative aide, will face off in the Democratic primary October 10th.

Republican Christine Canning is also running. The general election is November 7th.
