Massachusetts DPU To Hold Hearing On Eversource Rate Hike

Facebook: Eversource MA

The next Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities public hearing on Eversource’s proposed rate hike is set for Tuesday in Pittsfield.

State Attorney General Maura Healey recently called on Eversource to reduce its rates. The utility would phase-in a planned hike, seeking $96 million in January 2018, and $50 million annually for four years starting in 2019.

State Representative Tricia Farley-Bouvier of Pittsfield praised fellow Democrat Healey for trying to save customers up to 11 percent more next year.

“This is a company that is making a lot of money and their doing it on the backs of my constituents and, you know, we’re not going to have any of it,” Farley-Bouvier says.

The entire Berkshire state delegation is expected to speak at the hearing, which begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Berkshire Community College.
