Volunteer collects river water samples for testing
Connecticut River Conservancy

With the summer recreation season here, the Connecticut River Conservancy, formerly the Connecticut River Watershed Council, has launched a program to let people know if the river is clean enough to swim in.

This is the tenth year of the program that tests for contamination at more than 140 locations along the Connecticut River and its major tributaries, and puts the results online.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Andrea Donlon, the CRC River Steward in Massachusetts.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
