House Representatives are calling for a $94.3 million increase over the 2017 funding level.

Two dozen House Representatives have called for increasing federal funding to promote safe drinking water.

In a letter to the leaders of an environmental House Appropriations Subcommittee, 24 Congresspeople asked for $204 million in funding for Public Water Systems Supervision.

Connecticut Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty, a Democrat from the 5th district, says that’s a $94.3 million increase over the 2017 funding level.

Esty – whose state has 14 public water systems that were found to have elevated lead levels last year – says safe drinking water is a fundamental human need.
