Veterans of all service eras will be able to take advantage of the VA Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers under the new bill.

Connecticut Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty introduced legislation Thursday to expand the current Veteran Affairs Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers to veterans of all service eras.

The program is only available to veterans injured in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001.

Under the bill introduced by Esty, a Democrat from the 5th House district, with Pennsylvania’s Ryan Costello, the program would be expanded to all veterans, starting with those most in need, over the next six years.

Services include a monthly stipend, travel expenses reimbursement, access to health care insurance, mental health services and counseling and VA caregiver training.
