Vermont's attorney general is asking to intervene in the state Public Service Board's review of the sale of the closed Vermont Yankee power plant, saying significant environmental and financial issues are at stake.
T.J. Donovan said his office wants to ensure the site is fully cleaned up and without any costs falling on Vermont taxpayers. His filing also notes his office's current litigation against Entergy Nuclear's use of a nuclear decommissioning trust fund.

Entergy submitted a request to sell the plant, which shut down in December 2014, to demolition company NorthStar Group Services Inc. The company plans to demolish the reactor and restore the site for other uses.

A public hearing on the proposed sale is scheduled for March 14 in Vernon.
