The City Council in Burlington, Vermont, is showing support for welcoming Syrian refugees.
The council approved two measures on Monday night, one reaffirming Burlington as a welcoming city for immigrants, and the other supporting the resettlement of Syrian refugees in the city.

Dozens of people showed their support for the measures at the meeting and at a vigil beforehand.

Earlier this month, Burlington Democratic Mayor Miro Weinberger said he wants to make the city a sanctuary city to help worried immigrant populations.

Currently, no Syrian refugees are scheduled to be resettled in Burlington. For the past several months, Rutland has been getting ready to receive 100 mostly Syrian refugees beginning early next year.
