Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger is welcoming news that the Burlington School Board will meet with the teachers union on Wednesday in an attempt to avert a strike.
After 15 months of negotiations the School Board in September imposed terms and the union then authorized a strike if a mediated session failed.  Although the city administration is not involved, Mayor Weinberger is urging both sides to avoid a disruption of the school year.  "I’m sympathetic to the challenges and pressures they face. I hope they will find a way at the bargaining table to look again for collaborative ideas to get through this crisis.”

If an agreement is not reached, Burlington teachers could strike beginning Thursday.
