The city council in Springfield, Massachusetts is expected to vote Monday on a development agreement for the first medical marijuana dispensary in the city.
The council’s Health and Human Services Committee, after two public hearings, sent the proposed host community agreement back to the full council with no recommendation.
The chairman of the committee, councilor Adam Gomez said the city may have to go back to the negotiating table with Hampden Care Facilities, even if it further delays opening the dispensary.
"I understand that we need this to move forward, but the host community agreement needs to make sense," said Gomez.
Since Massachusetts voters approved medical marijuana in 2012, only seven dispensaries haven opened in the entire state, and only one in western Massachusetts.
