A new state report finds that Vermont continues to lead the nation in per capita clean energy jobs.
Governor Peter Shumlin's office announced that nearly 18,000 Vermonters have jobs in the clean energy field, rising by 1,400 during the past year. One in 17 Vermont workers are now part of the clean energy economy.
Shumlin says he's especially encouraged that a large number of young Vermonters have returned to their home state to work in wind, solar and related industries.
Of the more than 17,700 workers in the renewable energy industries, more than 1,500 work in wood energy, including people harvesting wood for energy, those in the chip, pellet and firewood industries and those working for manufacturers of wood-heating equipment.
