New Hampshire IDs Companies That Have Used Contaminating Chemical

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services has identified more than 40 companies in addition to Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics that likely used a water-contaminating compound in their products.
PFOA was found earlier this year at Saint-Gobain's in Merrimack and PFOs were found two years ago in well water on the former Pease Air Force Base.
New Hampshire Public Radio reports 43 other companies have used perfluorinated compounds, including PFOA.

The department has alerted all of the companies and is testing water for contamination at some sites.

The department says at least 52 private wells were showing elevated levels of PFOA. Saint-Gobain has agreed to pay for efforts to design a potential extension of public water service into the southern New Hampshire area where PFOA contamination is being investigated.
