Poll Finds Backing For " Millionaire Tax" Proposal

A new poll suggests there is wide support for a so-called “millionaire’s tax” in Massachusetts.

Seventy-two percent of the respondents to the WBUR poll that was taken in the greater-Boston area support the idea of a surtax on incomes of $ 1 million or more, with the additional money earmarked for transportation and education.

State Senate President Stan Rosenberg of Amherst is also a supporter.

" I am very much in favor of the proposal," said Rosenberg in an interview earlier this year. " It would change the ( state's) constitution to say that anyone who has a $ 1 million in taxable income would pay an additional 4 percent tax."

Legislators plan to debate the proposal at a Constitutional Convention scheduled for May 18.

The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home.
