Putting to rest speculation, State Representative Paul Mark said Thursday he is not running for the Massachusetts Senate. He will instead seek a fourth term in the House. The Peru Democrat says he wasn’t initially interested in running when Democratic Senator Ben Downing announced last month he was not seeking reelection. But, after state representatives Smitty Pignatelli and Tricia Farley-Bouvier declined to run, Mark says the opportunity became more attractive commensurate with growing support to launch a bid.

“In the end, the one person I needed really to sell on it was my wife,” Mark said. “And my wife just wouldn’t bite. She just wasn’t up for it. If the whole family and the whole team isn’t up for doing something like this then it’s not something I can put my whole heart into.”

Community organizer and Democrat Adam Hinds announced his bid for the Senate seat earlier this month.
