Springfield Mayoral Inauguration Scheduled

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno
WAMC

Plans for the fourth inauguration of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno have been announced by the mayor’s office.

Sarno will be formally inaugurated for a new four-year term Monday Jan. 4th at a public ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. in the Old First Church.

Sarno, who became mayor in 2008, won re-election by a landslide margin last November.

" I love this job, I love this job," Sarno said on election night.

After the inauguration ceremony there will be a reception at noon at Symphony Hall. That evening, Sarno and his family will greet visitors to the Bright Nights at Forest Park holiday light display, where admission will be free.

An inaugural ball will be held Friday January 8th.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
