Police have identified a Vermont man who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train.
Police say Nicholas Widomski of Brattleboro and Harrison Johnson of Marlboro were walking on the tracks in Brattleboro just after 1 p.m. Sunday when they spotted the train and tried to get off the tracks.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports that police believe 26-year-old Widomski was struck while he and Johnson were attempting to cross the railroad bridge.

Widomski was taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital on Sunday where he died from his injuries. Johnson was treated for minor injuries. He was later released.

The Vermonter train had 45 passengers on board. No passengers or crew members were injured, Amtrak officials said.

Authorities are investigating.
