Pittsfield’s youth violence and gang prevention coordinator is leaving his post to lead the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition. Adam Hinds was hired in March 2014 to oversee Pittsfield’s Shannon Grant. Since then he’s helped launch the Pittsfield Community Connection youth outreach program. Before returning to western Massachusetts, the Shelburne Falls native spent about 10 years with the United Nations handling conflict resolution in Iraq and Syria.

The announcement of Hinds’ new position comes as Pittsfield is reeling from two deadly shootings in July. Hinds spoke with WAMC’s Berkshire Bureau Chief Jim Levulis about his upcoming role and the work he’s done in Pittsfield.

Hinds will start his new role September 1st. He takes over for Al Bashevkin who stepped down earlier this year after nearly three decades with the coalition.

Jim is WAMC’s Assistant News Director and hosts WAMC's flagship news programs: Midday Magazine, Northeast Report and Northeast Report Late Edition. Email: jlevulis@wamc.org
