A Vermont ski resort is in the middle of a hiring spree in advance of expansion that will bring a new hotel and conference center to Burke in December.
Burke Mountain Resort is constructing accommodations similar to its sister lodge, Jay Peak, including over 100 new suites for skiers.
Developer Bill Stenger says he hopes the expansion will not only advance the finances of the resort, but also create jobs for Vermonters.
Vermont Public Radio reports the project is being funded primarily by foreign investors who receive visas in return for a pledge of at least $500,000 through the federal EB-5 program.
With many longtime employees now gone, marketing manager Jessica Sechler says the ski resort won't lose its hometown appeal as expansion brings more out-of-state vacationers.
