State Lawmakers Urge Congress To Reject Trade Fast-Track

wikipedia.org

More than 100 state legislators from around the country — including 27 from northern New England — are urging Congress to reject "fast-track" trade legislation and to go slow on the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact.

In a letter being sent to members of Congress on Thursday, the state lawmakers express concern that international trade agreements negotiated in secret can allow challenges to state environmental, labor and other laws.

One of the lead signers is Vermont Senator Virginia Lyons, a Chittenden County Democrat who has led a legislative panel studying international trade. Other signers include eight other Vermont lawmakers, three from New Hampshire and 15 from Maine.
