Baker's Talk With Mayors Focuses On Aid, Opioid Abuse And Development

Massachusetts Governor's Office

About 30 members of the Massachusetts Mayors Association met with Governor Charlie Baker in Boston Wednesday.Talks focused on state aid to municipalities as well as potential federal emergency dollars to help communities in eastern Massachusetts offset costs from the tough winter, according to North Adams Mayor Richard Alcombright. A member of the association’s opiate abuse committee, the Democrat says Baker’s administration is committed to fighting addiction.

“They just had series of listening sessions,” Alcombright pointed out. “He formed the coalition that he said he would between his office and Attorney General Maura Healy’s office. I think they are looking at things. They are talking about education and treatment.”

Pittsfield Mayor Dan Bianchi says Baker talked about focusing on specific economic development projects and Bianchi expects the Berkshire Innovation Center to be one of them.
