Public Asked To Report Street Light Outages

The mayor of Springfield, Massachusetts is asking for the public to report streetlight outages.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno said seeing streetlights dark is one of his pet peeves.

" I call in street lights out all the time to WMECo," said Sarno

Sarno said it is imperative streetlights remain on for public safety reasons.  And, the city is billed for the light if it is not illuminated.  The Springfield  mayor’s office said people can call the city’s information line 3-1-1 to report a streetlight out.  An official with Western Massachusetts Electric Co. said people can report street light outages by calling the customer service number or going to the utility company’s website.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
