Massachusetts Touts Success In Re-Launch Of Online Health Exchange

Massachusetts Health Connector

The 90-day open enrollment period for people to apply for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act kicked off November 15th. Following Massachusetts’ website debacle last year, Governor Deval Patrick is signaling success this time around.Last year’s website failure ran the IT budget $80 million over its expected $175 million mark and forced Massachusetts to put some 400,000 people in temporary coverage who must reapply this time around.

“They [Massachusetts Health Connector] have not only fixed last year’s problem, but they have delivered on next year’s goals a year in advance,” Patrick said. “Over the weekend, the wait times at their worst were about 40 minutes. I think they got that down to zero wait time in a very short period of time for those who were calling in.”

Nearly 12,000 people were deemed eligible for Affordable Care Act health insurance in the first two days of the open enrollment period.
