Vermont's Nuclear Decommissioning Citizens Advisory Panel has been created and six members have been appointed.

The 19-member panel was established this past legislative session to replace the seven-member Vermont State Nuclear Advisory Panel.

Governor Peter Shumlin appointed Kate O'Connor, of Brattleboro, and Martin Langeveld, of Vernon.

Senate President Pro-Tempore John Campbell has appointed James P. Matteau of Westminster and James M. Tonkovich of Wilder.

House Speaker Shap Smith has appointed David L. Deen and Derrik Jordan, both of Putney.

The Vermont Public Service Department said Tuesday that the Legislature and governor believed an advisory panel with more citizen representation focusing on decommissioning and restoration issues would be helpful with Vermont Yankee closing by the end of the year.

The first meeting will be held on September 25 in Brattleboro.
